Looking after your skin

Looking after treatment

Wanna know how to get that face fresh and glowing? Then check out step by step for the process of how to take care of your skin!

1. Check your skin type

If you are unaware of your skin type and are using products which are designated to other skin types, this can lead to your pores clogging up! This then causes breakouts and even premature ageing of the skin!

Normal Combination Skin:

  • No or few imperfections
  • Not too dry, not too oily
  • No severe sensitivity
  • Barely visible pores
  • A radiant complexion

Combination Skin:

  • Pores that look larger than normal
  • Dry in some areas, whilst being oily in areas like the T-Zone (nose, forehead & chin)
  • Blackheads
  • Shiny skin

Dry Skin:

  • Almost invisible pores
  • Dull, rough complexion
  • Red patches
  • Your skin is less elastic
  • More visible lines

Oily Skin:

  • Enlarged pores
  • Dull or shiny, thick complexion
  • Blackheads, pimples, or other blemishes

Sensitive Skin :

  • Redness
  • Itching
  • Burning
  • Dryness

If your skin is sensitive, try to find out what your triggers are so you can avoid them. There are many possible reasons, but often it’s in response to particular skin care products.

2. Products you need

You only need a tiny bit of each product! Over using product will just do the opposite and clog up your pores, which will give you more problems than you originally started with.

3. Check expiry dates

Be aware of this little sign! It’s usually on the back next to ingredients and it indicates how long you can use the product for once opened! They can harbour tonnes of bacteria and no one wants smear that all over their face! So be aware.

4. Use suncream

Okay so it makes sense in the summer of course you wear suncream but you need to wear it pretty much all year round! We’re not talking slap on a Factor 50 in winter! But a simple spf moisturiser or foundation will do!

5. Change it up

You should switch up your skincare regime throughout the year, the weather is another external factor that can wreak havoc on your skin. For instance during the winter, the combination of low temperatures outside and increased indoor heating can seriously dry out your skin. Whereas in the summer, you’re dealing with humidity, sun exposure, and climbing temperatures; causing oily skin, dark spots and lines.

6. Eat & drink well

Eat and drink with your skin in mind! No matter how many miracle products you slather on your face, if your diet sucks, your skin just won’t be bringing its A-game. To get that glow, you need to be supplying your body with beauty-boosting vitamins and minerals, and the right nutrients. Below are some foods and drinks which will replenish your skin and make it glow!

  • Almonds
  • Apricots
  • Avocado
  • Blueberries
  • Green Tea
  • Kale
  • Kiwi Fruit
  • Strawberries
  • Sweet Potato
  • Sunflower Seeds
  • Spinach
  • Tomato

7. Vitamin C

Vitamin C is the ultimate glow-getter! It is also one of the strongest antioxidants on the shelves, which means it helps to protect your skin from environmental stressors that can accelerate ageing. Plus, it’s even been shown to promote and encourage elastin and collagen syntheses, combined with its ability to banish dull skin.

How to get glowing skin

Glowing skin

Scrolling through our phones we all stop on this people with glowing, “that’s defrocked a filter” skin! Well fret no more! We’re going to give you all the tips and trick of the trade, to get your skin glowing without a filter!

Diet

The boring bit you don’t want to hear, but those anti-oxidant rich foods are a game changer to bright skin! Remember you are what you eat, drab food means drab skin!

Exfoliate

Make sure you use a gentle facial exfoliation, not one for your body! The skin on your face is delicate and we don’t want any premature damage or wrinkles! This removes that dark dull layer of buildup and dead cells, revealing that dewy glow underneath!

Cleanse

Get into a good cleansing routine, morning and night! Get a gentle cleaner and cleanse in the morning as over night your pores can block up from debris and oils. Think of this you’ve been out all day, touching things here there and everywhere, do you go to bed or eat without washing hands or cleaning yourself? No… well there’s your answer your face has been in contact with the same dirt through the day along with makeup if you’ve worn it and even touching your face with your hands! Wash the day away with some cleanser using circular motions.

Moisturise

Make sure you choose the correct moisturiser to your skin type! Oily skin, a heavy moisturiser may give you an oil overload. Super dry? Just make sure your giving your skin all the moisture it needs. Combination? There are loads of fab moisturisers for every skin type, or talk to a skin specialist if your unsure!

Caring for your tape extensions

Tape extensions

So you’ve just forked our hundreds for your hair extensions, your going to want to invest some knowledge and time on how to care for your hair extensions or your hundreds will be a waste! It’s so important to care for your tape hair extensions as if they were your own hair, or your own hair will suffer. Here’s how to look after them:

Don’t

  • Get hair fitted by a non professional
  • Forget to book your refit at your fitting appointment, between 6-8weeks max!
  • Leave them to dry naturally, as this harbours mould and can cause infection to your scalp.
  • Go to bed with wet hair
  • Use a hairdryer on hottest setting
  • Use cheap shampoo (cheap shampoo can damage beyond repair)
  • Oils on roots (this will soften and release the bond causing slippage)
  • Attempt to colour or cut the hair
  • Submerge hair in swimming pools (chemicals will react with the hair and can cause them to turn awful unfixable colours)
  • Wear in direct heat (holidays and sitting in direct heat without a hat will cause them to slip out, causing a matted mess)
  • Tug or pull when brushing
  • Sleep with them loose (matting and shedding can occur from the friction of your pillow)

Do

  • Your research on good fitters (find out their experience and what hair they use)
  • Research on what hair is best for your budget (Indian hair will last 3-6months, Brazilian and Russian hair last between 12-18m when using correct aftercare advice)
  • Invest in a good extensions brush
  • Invest in a good extension shampoo and conditioner (free from sulphates and parabens)
  • Create a new getting ready routine (hair extensions take a long time to dry and style at least 1hr so make sure you’ve accounted for this day to day.
  • Style as you wish with curlers etc but keep heat low and use a heat protector!
  • Book in regular refits 6-8weeks
  • Brush twice a day making sure you’re checking for matting. If matting occurs visit your technician and they can remove for you no problem. Don’t let it get worse!
  • Enjoy them!

They’re a fab investment when following rules correctly and have been known to help people grown their own hair by focusing on the extensions and not using as much heat on their own, they can be game changers for that uber glam look, but just know they cost, in time, effort and obviously money!
